Earth For Energy (E4E) has the main claim "how to make your own solar panels for less than $200". It contains an introduction to solar energy which is engagingly written and easy to follow. It then, as expected moves on to the business of building the panels. I found some of the tips in this section very interesting and I learned many thing that would have save me time. Doh! Nevermind. Then it goes on to how to install the panels, which can be the daunting part of the solar-DIY project. Michael Harvey breaks it down into simple steps - he makes it seem much more achievable. Also of note is the bonus videos and information on building a wind turbine. I think this is the best of the guides on solar panels, so I give this 5 stars.

Just like E4E, this company makes the claim of sub $200 solar panels. This is certianly achievable using their mehtods. The array of content is pretty much identical to E4E, including the extras on wind energy. I found it hard to choose between them, so I asked a few friends, I let them view both products on my computer at home. I would say E4E had the edge in terms of simplicity and easy of use. I would recommend Green DIY Energy as a backup resource if you can spare and extra few dollars (you'll be saving loads anyway!) or if you prefer video as there is more video content in this version. So 4 stars.

This product has the features you would expect from a self-build solar energy course. It's pretty good and covers the basics well. I think the course is almost as good as the other two, however beware they like to change their pricing, so make sure you buy when the price is below $59 (ideally $49) otherwise wait or go for one of the other products. Don't pay more than $59!
